Yep...I had a paci lover. He took it from day one! There are days where it was a God send and nights where I drove out to buy new ones because we lost the old. I had a baby that took to the dreaded PACI.
So, to fall in line with other Mommy's...I have been planning my strategy for about a month now...I will take away the paci starting on a Friday, so we will have all weekend to "Get Over It!" I have consistently made excuses..."Oh, he was sick this weekend.""We have too much going on this weekend." "Bedtime hasn't been consistent this weekend." Well, enough!
I just up and decided we would give it a try...not on a Friday night, but on a Sunday night! Don't ask me why...just thought we would go out on a whim. Well, we shall see how this goes...up to bed we march! I did, however, give in and let him take his favorite Lightening McQueen to bed with him. We went through all of our nightly rituals. I laid my little boy down to sleep and crossed my fingers! To my surprise, we had no issues!!
I let Ms. Jenny know that we were going to attempt a paci free BIG BOY! She had already moved him out of the pack n play for nap time and into the BIG kid room with a nap mat and pillow. (I am NOT ready for this part at home...I have control while he is in the crib still!!) She said he went down for nap time with no problems!! Yay!!
Here we are, night #2 and bedtime went off without a Paci!!! I guess Mommy was holding onto the paci a little harder than Gavster! My baby boy is growing up. He isn't in a pack n play at nap time anymore. He doesn't require a paci to go to sleep and HE reminds me that he needs to brush his teeth. I might just have to sit down and have a little cry or another glass of wine!! It amazes me how fast this time is flying.
And No, Mom, I am not yet ready to have another one just to fill the void of my baby boy constantly needing me. Sorry...not saying never, just not now! ;)
I will have to say that I believe the Paci would have been easier to break than the thumb. It's easy to say you can't find a paci than you can't find a thumb!
Cheers to my BIG boy!!!
