About Me

My photo
I have a wonderful husband and bouncing boy, who is growing faster and faster as the days go by. I love to play with him and watch him learn and grow. My two boys are the things I am most proud of in this world and I love them to pieces...like father...like son!

Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice...

That's right, we baked sugar and spice and everything nice! What is Annual Holiday Baking Day, you ask? It is a tradition we have had with all the women in our family to ALL get together for one entire day, before the holidays, to bake until we drop. How can you eat everything you bake, you ask? We DON'T! It goes to the office, the neighbors, friends, family, the fire station and anyone else in need of a holiday sugar high. Of course, we keep an intsy, bintsy, teeny, tiny stash for ourselves. What fun would it be if you didn't get to reep what you sow? So, where does it all start?
For me, on Thursday night. Stirring up the cookie dough took almost as long as baking the cookies. You see, you have to put the flour in, SLLLLOOOOWWWWLLLYYYY or else you have a kitchen full of flour! Because of lessons learned in the past few years, we decided to roll, cut out, and bake the Christmas cookies on Friday night. So, Mom, Courtney, and I got started after baby bedtime on Friday night. Elf, the movie, went into the Blue Ray player and away we went. It only took us two hours to roll, cut and bake over 300 cookies!!! We had a rockin system! Everybody was ready for bed by 10 PM.
Early to rise the next day for the Annual Baking Day! We started at 8AM with Starbuck in hand! Since the cookies were already baked and ready for icing, we had to start making he icing. A timeless recipe handed down from Great Grandma to Grandma to Mom to Daughter and probably eventually to daughter-in-law since we have a family full of baby BOYS! What is on the agenda for baking day? Are you ready? No, I mean really ready? Christmas Cut-out Cookies, Carmel Corn, White Chocolate Popcorn balls, Chocolate-covered pretzals, fudge, Chex Mix and MORE Christmas cookies!!! Yes, we do all of this baking in ONE day. You wouldn't believe it unless you saw it. My kitchen was a disaster area and it was a BLAST!!! I wouldn't trade these memories for anything in the world!
