About Me

My photo
I have a wonderful husband and bouncing boy, who is growing faster and faster as the days go by. I love to play with him and watch him learn and grow. My two boys are the things I am most proud of in this world and I love them to pieces...like father...like son!

Flashabets, Alphabets, and Magnets Galore!

We started out with simple A, B, C's. Gav would say A, B, C, D, and then F. For some reason, he would never say E. He loves to say his alphabet and after teaching him to spell his name, I thought it would be awesome to teach him his alphabet.
After an AWESOME recommendation from Aunt G about the iphone application called Flashabets, we were off. Flashabets allows Gavin to thumb through the alphabet and touch the screen to hear the letter, if he is unsure of his answer.
Well, I must say I was impressed with how many of them he knew! He was stumped with some of the harder letters, like Q, W and confusion between E and F. Other than that, he would say them all. It must have been all those nights of going through his alphabet blocks and a little help from Miss Jenny and Miss Angie, during the day! So, we continue to practice for 10-15 minutes a night on the Flashabets. Now, after a week and a half, Gav has almost all the letters down, even when they are presented to him out of order. Again, I am amazed at how quickly our children can learn at such a young age. This week, we will move on to the numbers! He pretty much has 1-10, but Flashabets, goes on up higher. We will see if we can get to 20!

Gav loves to say his alphabet. So, again, another overnight stay with Mamaw and Pappy landed Gav some new toys! This time...alphabet magnets. Ever since playing with Aunt Jody's (Mommy's Aunt) magnets in Ohio, Gav has been obsessed with magnets. So, naturally, Mom found these LeapFrog Phonics magnets that repeat the sound of the letter when he places it on the center hole. Not only does this help with his letter recognition and sound recognition, it helps with his eye/hand coordination. Go Mamaw, GREAT find!!! It didn't take long for Gavin to figure out how to use the magnets and of course, he LOVES them. Whoohoo, now we can learn the sounds the letters make. I love seeing his excitement as he learns something new and becomes very proud of himself.

Here is a little video of Gavin with his LeapFrog phonics magnets!!!

We will try to catch him saying the letters at our next Flashabet session...LOVE it!!!
